Having A MENTOR Gives You an Edge in Your Acting Career!

In most careers, having a mentor is necessary for you to succeed. There is no specific step by step pattern that you can follow, what you need is the guidance of someone who knows the ins and outs in the industry. It may not be an ideal set up for some but it is a must. Yes, you can be your own mentor but that will take the time you can’t earn back, a mentor can save you from that.

A mentor is someone who is there to guide you with your goal. One of the many reasons why it is important to have one is when you are on stage or have a performance, it's always nice to have an advocate to boost your confidence and help you grow in your profession. Pieces of Advice to avoid usual setbacks in the industry is a great help to move forward.

Now I understand that finding a mentor is easy, but having one is quite difficult. This is where your social skills kicks in. Approach a potential mentor and ask him/her for a cup of coffee, be friendly, gain her confidence. Don’t ask your potential mentor right away is he/she can mentor you, it doesn’t work that way. Maybe on your 2nd or 3rd meeting you can ask him/her that favor. Don’t make it sound like a business proposal because it isn’t, you are asking someone (probably too busy to have time for themselves) their precious golden TIME so they can mentor you, definitely that is you asking for a tremendous favor. You must make it as pleasantly engaging as possible, and if they agree, give your best, ALWAYS!

Find a mentor you admire and comfortable to work with to avoid misunderstanding when a feedback is provided. If you are someone who is sensitive to criticism, then you have to work on it, criticisms are provided for you to grow, learn not to take it negatively. Or if this doesn't work out, there are lots of Acting Classes in LA, Acting Workshops in LA or anywhere that is near you. An Acting Studios in LA would definitely fit since you'll have your options.

Acting workshops and classes gives you more space to practice and enhance your skills. If you are someone who is independent and doesn’t like relying on anyone, then this might actually work out for you. Hire someone to help you. Now if you are on a tight budget, there are some workshops/studios that offer an internship in exchange for a discounted/free class. Yes, this is happening in some workshops/studios and this is helping actors achieve their goals. Here at LA Acting Studios, we are proud that we have this program! This is a step we took to share what we have, and help those who need it the most. We help them, they help us in return, simple as at.

Again, we always go back to the basic, your social skills. Build your connection, make friends with people who share the same passion. Now, this industry may not be fair for the most part, but only because its foundation is RELATIONSHIP RELATIONSHIP RELATIONSHIP. You build your profession while making friends, making a connection, making your way through your dream. Never underestimate the need for a support network. Find your mentor, in return, mentor others as well. We should learn to give and take, we should learn to share. This is how we grow in this confusing and challenging industry.

I wish you luck and feel free to get in touch with
our team if you need guidance and help in this confusing but exciting world of acting.
